Hellebore: My Favorite Garden Plant for January/February
The Helleborus or Lenten Rose is a favorite perennial of mine. Once established (this can take up to three years), they are very hardy and deer ‘resistant’. I never say ‘deer-proof’ because if a deer is hungry enough anything goes!
They are great on the edge of the woodland garden as they like morning sun and filtered afternoon sun. If they are in full summer sun, the leaves may scorch but they can take full winter sun. Although I do have some Hellebores that get almost no sun, the ones getting the filtered sun are thicker and have more blooms. Read more
